All are Invited - Take Part in Practice of Daily Meditation

The congregation is invited to join with the church leaders in practicing the spiritual discipline of daily meditation. Church leaders have already begun meditating on selected scriptures from Hebrews chapters 1 through 4. Over the next five weeks, the congregation will be provided a series of three devotionals which will guide their meditation. This week’s devotional has been inserted into the church bulletin. Three verses taken from Hebrews 4:14-16 serve as the core passage for the congregation’s meditation this week. Next Sunday, February 5, a second devotional will be made available in worship and a final devotional will be distributed on Sunday, February 19.

This week as the congregation meditates on God’s Word, it is to discern the mission that God desires for His people and thus for our church. Next week each person will be asked to begin to discern for themselves, the will to carry out their own part of God’s mission at our church. During the final two weeks, the congregation will be asked to discern the way in which God’s mission can be carried out at the First Presbyterian Church, Altadena.

Leaders in Worship

We are grateful to those persons who led us in worship on Sunday January 29; Candle lighter, Mieko Payne; Liturgist, Dorothy Kirkland; scripture reader, Becky Roberts, (Gospel reading, Matthew 9: 14-17) and Rev. 4:14-16); greeter, Hiroko Nishiyama; ushers, Clyde Payne and Alice Young; worship team, Noah Lau Branson, Joe Snodgrass, and Allison Itano Lee; sound, Ty Morris and Ben Snodgrass; and the Rev. Mark Buchanan for his sermon “The Way Ahead: III, Beginning With What Ended Badly.” We also welcomed Kristan Wilkins of South Pasadena to Sunday worship.

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

 Hebrews 4: 14-16
