Our Ministries

Infants and Toddlers

Held each Sunday in the Main Nursery, our infants are introduced to the wonders of the Bible and Jesus Christ through age-appropriate study materials under the watchful eye of teachers and aides from our youth program. Class commences every Sunday at 10:45 AM.

K-6

Held each Sunday in the Toriumi Education Building Main, our youth are introduced to the truths contained in the Bible through age-appropriate study materials, quizzes, and plays based on the Godly Play curriculum. Class commences every Sunday at 10:45 AM.

Dance

Thanks to the devotion of our youth that are already involved in regular community dance programs, we are planning to offer youthful seekers the opportunity to learn how dance can serve as a wonderful vehicle for offering thanks for the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hula Dance Classes continue on Tuesdays, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM in the Social Hall.

Godly Play Classes

Godly Play, a Montessori approach to educating our children in the Christian faith, is now underway. Godly Play begins after the start of our worship service at 10:45 AM. The program is designed to support, challenge, nourish, and help guide their spiritual quest. All interested adults and children may see Debra Williams. Please call the Church Office at (626) 791-4271 for more information.

New Christian Classes

Come learn the history and theological basis of the Presbyterian faith and the dynamic history of our church. Classes are arranged through the Church Office.

Adult Education

There are several adult learning opportunities held on Sunday mornings at 9:00 A.M.

First is our long-running "Presbyterian Women Bible Study" group, which meets in the Fellowship Hall.  Please call the Church Office during the week to confirm the coming Sunday’s meeting time, as the group occasionally will meet as early as 8:00 A.M.

The second opportunity is our "Adult Bible Study” group held in the Toriumi Education Building.

A third opportunity is our new “Bible for Beginners” that also meets in the Toriumi Education Building.

Any and all seekers are welcome to attend. Contact the Church Office at (626) 791-4271 if you have any questions.

Ministries (Continued)

Mid-Week Bible Study

A number of other Bible Study opportunities are available, usually meeting on Thursday and Friday evenings. Contact the Church Office at (626) 791-4271 for further information and the names of those leading each group.

Deacons

While the separate duties of the Deacons are described in more detail below, it is always a special blessing to be serving together at the different Church activities and welcoming help from so many other “honorary” Deacons. Many people faithfully prepared the elements for communion on the second Sunday of each month.

Deacons are also responsible for setting up for each Church potluck as well as the rest of the potluck duties on the odd months. It is a special privilege of the Deacons to be able to pray for and remember each person listed as sick, shut-in or in bereavement. Others send cards on behalf of the Deacons, and many Deacons visit in person when possible.

Nancy Castillo is the contact for Friends in Deed. The Deacons are also assisted by Bob Uchida in collecting items for the needy in the Altadena area.

Deacons and volunteers cook and serve dinner for Union Station on every 5th Friday during the year.

In order to provide a time of fellowship, Deacons have a coffee & teatime a minimum of once per month. Other special occasions include the following work by the Deacons:

  • Thursday Night Bible Study group with Easter morning breakfast.

  • Bellefontaine Nursery’s donation of beautiful flowers for every Mother’s Day.

  • Deacons serve hotdog lunch at the annual Easter Church picnic.

  • Helping PW with Thanksgiving Dinner and Christmas Potluck.

Because of compassionate donations to the Deacon’s fund, help was provided through donations of medical supplies and food (some prepared by Caring Cooks, a wonderful new group of women including Betty, Alice, Fumi, Hideko, Tami, and Irene, who prepare food for shut-ins) for those with special needs.

Donations of food for the Church picnic and Union Station also keep expenditures down so that more is available for emergencies.

Special Needs

Our facilities offer easy access ramps to the Sanctuary, Fellowship, and Social Halls. We also offer easy-to-use wireless earpieces for those worshippers who are hearing impaired.
