We Remember Tosh Kawahara
We remember a dear friend, Tosh Kawahara, who passed away quietly at home, surrounded by his entire family on February 10. A long time resident of Pasadena, Tosh was a retired pharmacist and was a very active member of our congregation. He had served several times as a church Elder and Deacon, and for many years took care of our church facilities as a Trustee. Tosh also saw to our congregation’s participation in the annual CROP Walk, and along with the Thursday Night Bible Study organized our church Breakfast Hike for many years. He worked with Ted Tajima and Sophie Toriumi in presenting our church’s pictorial history, and was a member of the Senior Task Force Committee.
Tosh is survived by his wife Mitsie, daughter Avis Kawahara, son Paul (Elaine) Kawahara, grandson Ryan Kawahara, sisters Suzie Yamada, Florence (Don) Fujimoto, and many other relatives. A memorial service will be held in our Sanctuary on March 24, at 11:00 AM
We Remember Mari Higashi
We remember Mariko Mari Higashi, a member of our congregation who was called to our Lord and Savior on December 3, 2011. A memorial service was held at Fukui Mortuary’s, Chapel in the Garden on December 27. Born in Santa Monica, California, and interned at Gila River Relocation Camp, Mari and her late husband Harry lived in Pasadena for many years. Our deepest sympathies are extended to her family, sons Chuck and David Higashi, daughter Karen Ishii, and their families.
Grace Yuki is Called
Our church family remembers a dear friend, Grace Yuki, who passed away quietly in Pasadena. Grace and her family were active members of our community and congregation. A retired PCC librarian, Grace and her husband Harvard were active with the Crown City Optimists Club for many years. She served as the treasurer for our Presbyterian Women in the 1990’s-2005, and was awarded a Life Membership. She was preceded in death by her husband Harvard, and son Douglas Yuki.
Memorial services were held in our Sanctuary on February 11, at 11:00am. Our deepest sympathies are extended to her sons Glen and Alan Yuki and their families.
Taka Nomura is Called
We remember Mrs. Taka Nomura, a long time resident of Pasadena, and friend of our congregation. The 95 year old South Pasadena born Nisei passed away peacefully at home. A memorial service was held for her in our church sanctuary on February 4, at 11:00am.
Preceded in death by her husband Michi, Taka is survived by her daughter Chris Naito; son Stephen (Ginger) Nomura of Berkeley; grandchildren Nicki (Gene) Lew and Anna Nomura of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren, Kevin and Gregory Lew; brother-in-law Sho (Florence) Nomura; sister-in-law Helen (Ray) Obazawa; and many other relatives.
